Hogwarts at MVUUC

Maumee Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation (MVUUC) is proud to hold our eighth annual "Hogwarts at MVUUC" Summer Camp, a daycamp inspired by the Harry Potter book series. At MVUUC Hogwarts young wizards (grades K through 8th grade) join a vibrant, fun, and magical community.  Young wizards participate in service activities for the community and congregation, a variety of magical classes, quests and challenges, and learn more about themselves in a safe, welcoming environment.  Although this is a "religious summer camp," young wizards from all faith traditions are welcome and honored here!

Everyone is encouraged to read MVUUC's official response to J.K. Rowling's recent transphobic tweets. We disagree with the author's comments, and have been in a process of reflection about how the author's perspectives influence the text and how we can continue to best respond.  We plan on having some conversation with students at camp about the name of our school and whether we should change it (not erasing the history and its relation to Harry Potter, but not elevating it as well).

This year's camp theme is Magical Beasts. We will focus on our connection with the animal kingdom and finding joy and wonder in our own experience of the world. For Unitarian Universalist caring for our world is principle #7, and one of our sources of inspiration is the mystery and wonder of life!
